A Sacred Circuit: The Five Sarovar Yatra
The Five Sarovar Yatra is a revered pilgrimage for Sikhs, encompassing five sacred lakes (Sarovars) associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji. These lakes – Hemkunt Sahib, Gobind Sagar Lake, Khalsa Sir, Taran Taran Sahib, and Harike Wetland – are scattered across Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, each holding significant historical and spiritual importance. This pilgrimage, amidst breathtaking natural beauty, offers a deeply enriching experience. This itinerary, curated by The Partner Holidays Vacation, ensures a fulfilling and spiritually uplifting journey.
Your Five Sarovar Yatra begins with your arrival at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar. Our representative will greet you and escort you to your awaiting vehicle for a scenic drive to Anandpur Sahib, a historic city and a significant center of Sikhism. Check into your hotel/guesthouse upon arrival. Anandpur Sahib is closely associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Visit Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, one of the five Takhts (seats of Sikh authority).
After an early breakfast, embark on a long but scenic drive to Govindghat, the starting point for the trek to Hemkunt Sahib. The drive itself is a pilgrimage through beautiful landscapes. From Govindghat, begin your trek to Ghangaria, the base camp for Hemkunt Sahib. The trek is moderately challenging. Check into your accommodation in Ghangaria.
Early morning, begin the trek to Hemkunt Sahib, a glacial lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Hemkunt Sahib is revered as the place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji meditated in his previous birth. Visit the Gurudwara situated on the banks of the lake. After spending some time at this sacred site, trek back to Govindghat. Overnight stay in Govindghat.
After breakfast, drive to Kiratpur Sahib, a historic town associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Visit Gurdwara Patalpuri Sahib. Then proceed to Fatehgarh Sahib, another important Sikh pilgrimage site. Visit Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, commemorating the martyrdom of the two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Overnight stay in Fatehgarh Sahib/nearby city.
Drive to Tarn Taran Sahib, a city known for Gurdwara Tarn Taran Sahib, a significant Sikh shrine with a large Sarovar. Visit the Gurdwara and experience the spiritual atmosphere. Afterward, proceed to Harike Wetland, a Ramsar site and a haven for migratory birds. While not strictly a Sarovar in the same religious context, it is a significant body of water in the region. Overnight stay near Harike.
Visit the Harike Wetland in the morning, if time permits, observing the rich biodiversity. Then drive back to Amritsar. Depending on your departure schedule, you can visit the Golden Temple again or explore other local attractions. Our representative will transfer you to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport for your onward journey, carrying with you the blessings of the Five Sarovars.
